"The Message" - Musical Analysis #2
In a world and industry saturated with countless portrayals of drugs, partying, and sexual content, few artists stray far from that and carve their own lane in the music industry. Not only have Majid Jordan done just that, but they continue to refuse to stray outside their lane or compromise the quality of sound they produce.
Majid Jordan is an R&B duo comprised of vocalist Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman, both of whom originate from Ontario, Canada. They formed their group in 2011 while attending The Univeristy of Toronto, where they made music between a college dorm and a home basement. They even made and released their first single in one day, releasing it anonymously on Soundcloud. They would eventually be signed to record label OVO, commonly known as the label started by famous artist Drake.

My Personal Thoughts
This song is one that immediately grabs your attention. The intro begins with a soft acoustic guitar that pulls you in and stops you in your tracks. You almost have to stop what you're doing and give your undivided attention to this song. You can feel the intimacy in every line, almost like you, the listener, are interrupting a personal message to someone special. This song is very calm, simple, and reflective, which reminds me of the beach during a sunset, with the waves slapping against the shore and the smell of saltwater in the air. This song makes you feel reflective and at peace, it's not something you hear its something you feel.
Musical Elements Analysis
Melody- The song is smooth and flowing allwoing the vocals to feel natural, heartfelt, and emotionally expressive.
Harmony- the production is simple, which adds to the emotion conveyed; the simple background harmonies add warmth and depth without overpowering the simplicity of the song, allowing for the lyrics to carry the weight.
Rhythm- The relaxed and continuous/steady rhythm gives the track a reflective, intimate, and emotionally evocative flow.
Tempo- the tempo is slow-paced and again enhances the reflective and intimate mood of the song.
Dynamics- the dynamics remain soft and controlled throughout, allowing the song to maintain a raw, personal atmosphere rather than an overcrowded, dramatic one.
The melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics in “The Message” by Majid Jordan all shape the way I personally connect to the song. The smooth melody makes the emotions feel honest and easy to follow, almost like the singer is speaking directly to the listener. The subtle harmony in the background adds warmth, which deepens the emotional impact without overwhelming the simplicity of the track. The relaxed rhythm and slow tempo give me space to really sit with the lyrics and reflect, instead of feeling rushed through the experience. Finally, the soft dynamics keep everything intimate and vulnerable, which makes the song feel more personal. Together, these elements help me understand the song not just as music, but as a genuine emotional expression that feels calm, reflective, and deeply real.
Final Thoughts
I think it is crazy to think that few people know about Majid Jordan because there are plenty of other examples besides "The Message" that speak to this duo's ability to make not only thought-provoking music but also emotionally charged music that truly makes you stop and appreciate the sound waves that are hitting your ears. Lastly, another song that I could recommend is "Patience" to listen to.
